Taking good care of your home can sometimes be tiring. But with the best knowledge and tools, it can actually be quite enjoyable. Whether you prefer the heavy work or just to keep everything clean and tidy, here are eight home care tips, ranging from very simple to a bit more complex, everyone should know and follow.
Quiet down loud door hinges
You should spray some oil or lubricant into the middle of the hinge. If the squeal persists, knock the hinge pin up halfway with a hammer and screwdriver and rub the lubricant on it. Put it back down and move the door. The problem should be gone.
Stabilize a loose showerhead
A simple solution is to pull back the flange and apply expanding foam around the arm to fill the gap. When the foam dries, it will fill the cavity and keep the pipe stable.
Remove scuffs from floors
There’s a very curious solution. Rub a tennis ball vigorously over the mark. The felt surface is great to remove scuffs. You can even cut an X on the ball and stick a broom handle into it.
Keep wood floors quiet
Apply baby powder on the cracks near the noise. With a broom, spread it and get it into the cracks. It’s an easy technique, but efficient most of the times.
Clear stains from leaks
Before you decide to paint over them, try spraying a mix of water and bleach, with 10% bleach. Wait for 24 or so hours. This will work out for most types of ceilings.
Restore flow to the faucet
The reduced or uneven flow can be caused by the accumulation of mineral deposits that gum up the tip of the faucet. Wrap tape around the mesh screen or the aerator to protect it and then twist off, wash it out and soak it in vinegar for an hour. It should be perfect to reassemble.
Unclog a toilet
Pour half a cup of liquid dishwashing soap into the toilet. It will lubricate the walls. Try flushing after an hour and if everything went as planned, the soap must have created a coat to allow to everything to slide perfectly.
Patch holes in drywall
Get some spackle and scrap it into the hole. Let it dry and then sand it gently. You can then paint to make the hole completely vanish.
We’re sure these eight tips will come in handy. But you should learn as much as possible. It will save you time, money and headaches.
