Father’s Day around the Bay!

Filed under: Anchor Cove, Candlestick Cove, Outlook, Pleasant Oak — admin @ 6:08 pm

With Father’s Day right around the corner, daughters and sons all over Northern California will be searching for unique ideas to spend time their dads.  Between San Francisco and Sacramento there are plenty of ways to celebrate with your family!

Depending on your dad’s hobbies you can just about find anything that he will like here in the bay area.  If your dad loves golf and you want to venture down the coast, Pebble Beach in Monterey has the US Open this year! Here is the website: www.usopen.com

In San Francisco, the de Young Museum has a wonderful exhibit currently running, Birth of Impressionism: Masterpieces from the Musée d’Orsay.  Visit http://www.famsf.org/ for more information on this stunning exhibition. I recently took my dad and he really enjoyed it. A day at the beach is always a wonderful way to spend time with your family.  Crissy Field (www.crissyfield.org) down in the Marina is dog friendly and the whole family can enjoy the sand and sun.  Stop by The Marina Deli on Chestnut Street for a great sandwich to enjoy while watching the kite boarders and wind sailors in action and you also won’t be disappointed by the view of the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz. The North Beach Festival (www.northbeachchamber.com) will be going on in Washington Park off of Columbus as well.  It is a wonderful way to take in some good music and eat yummy Italian cuisine. Check out all the events happening on Sunday at www.sfgate.com under “Entertainment.”

Signature Properties also has wonderful communities in Sacramento. Recently, I had the pleasure of visiting the different neighborhoods and found out about different events. Sacramento is lucky enough to have one of the best minor league ball clubs in the nation. The River Cats will be playing at 1pm at Raley Field. Go to www.rivercats.com to purchase tickets for the game and don’t forget to bring your glove.   Not only does Sacramento have have a great ball park there is a World Class Zoo.  Take your dad this Sunday and visit the new 10 week old tiger cub. There is a very cute video of her on the www.saczoo.com website.   Maybe your dad is curious about the history of California? There is an event at the Sutter Fort State Historical Monument that sounds very interesting. Guests will get a chance to speak with Pioneers from the Gold Rush days and hear about their adventures coming to California. Check out http://www.parks.ca.gov for more information.

I hope these ideas have been helpful. I know my dad is going to want to do something low key. On Fathers Day,  I’m going to his house with a BBQ set and his favorite cut of steak. I’ll attempt to cook for him but something tells me he’ll take over! I have been looking at recipes online and found a couple great ones on foodnetwork.com and this is a great video on barbecuing a Porterhouse steak.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QiGTIFPOusM. I’m hoping we won’t be too full take a hike afterwards. I know we would all would like it especially his dogs.  Check out your city’s local website for hiking trails and parks if you think your dad would like that too.  Please feel free to post any ideas you have as well. What will you be doing this Sunday?
