The Livermore Valley has a long tradition of winemaking dating back to the 1800's, when the first French Bordeaux grapes were introduced to the area. In 1997, the city of Livermore and Alameda County adopted the South Livermore Valley Specific Plan. The Cresta Blanca Estates community is included within the Plan's boundaries, which balances Livermore's residential and agricultural growth. According to the Plan, twenty three square miles of land are designated for agricultural use, primarily vineyards, olive groves and fruit orchards. As a result, flourishing vineyards and permanent open space surround Cresta Blanca Estates, providing a serene and scenic backdrop for the community. The South Livermore Valley offers many opportunities for outdoor activities and recreation. The Valley is home to more than 20 wineries, many of which offer tours and wine tasting. For golfers, the region features several quality public golf courses including Poppy Ridge and the Greg Norman-designed Course at Wente Vineyards. In addition, the area's open hills, parks and waterways offer camping, hiking, swimming, boating, fishing and lots of other ways to play. Not far from Cresta Blanca Estates are the amenities and entertainment of downtown Livermore. Award-winning schools, fine restaurants, charming shops, plentiful parks and historic wineries are all close by. With annual community events including the Summer Wine & Food Celebration, the Harvest Wine Celebration, Holiday in the Vineyards, the California Independent Film Festival, and San Francisco Bay Wine Auction, you'll find reason to celebrate any time of the year. |
